Little known fact, much like girls on Pinterest, the Victorians were obsessed with flowers. Gifts of specific arrangements were used to send coded messages about feelings which couldn’t be spoken aloud in Victorian society. These were called “Talking Bouquets,” and often left the recipient scrambling for their floral dictionaries. While today we like to focus on the romantic aspects of the Language of Flowers, Victorians weren’t shy about sending them to people they hated, too. So, to help you avoid any potential botanical mishaps this Valentine’s day, I’ve put together a list of commonly used flowers and their many (and varied) meanings.

Now that I’ve helped you navigate those murky waters, it’s time to talk about vases. Vases, while being the staging grounds for your blooms to shine, also outlast the flowers contained within. So best to pick something stylishly neutral that can be easily integrated into any décor. Luckily for you, I’ve done all the hard work. Enjoy!
