New Merchandising Team Make IMAX Showrooms Your Destination for Style This Summer

IMAX has built a reputation in the industry as trend and lifestyle experts. This summer, prepare to be carried away to exotic locations and destination hotspots at market. Our new merchandising team is hard at play, completely re-imagining the IMAX product line through globally inspired destination vignettes and curated collections for every style – not to mention loads of retail merchandising ideas ready to implement back home.

Robert Germain joined our team last fall and has fully embraced the role of Director of Merchandising for IMAX Worldwide Home. His vision and enthusiasm are energizing the line with brilliant visual inspiration that showcases the entire product line in a new light. Our summer market showrooms will feature the theme, “Destinations: The Inspiration Behind the Product,” and will take you on a style journey from Morocco to Manhattan, Santiago to San Francisco and beyond.

At the age of eighteen, Robert began working in floral design, and with the incredible support and encouragement that he received for his first floral basket, he found his path. His journey took him to Three Hands where he served as Merchandising Director for ten years, and has now led him to his destination at IMAX. Robert attributes his success as a visual merchandiser to his inherently creative flair, inspiration from the world around him and the bonus of a truly collaborative team.

Shannon Heer, who’s worked with Robert for years, joined his team when he came to IMAX and has painted her way into our hearts. Her vivacious vision, boundless energy and faux finish wall techniques take the showrooms to a next-level wow factor.

Completing the team, Lanier Castaneda and Chris Hancock keep things on-trend and ahead of the curve. With a youthful artistic perspective, solid design sensibility and a hands-on approach to work, they make things happen.

Black Sands Each season, our team of creative experts, buyers and trend forecasters work together to create product stories at the forefront of current trends. Once the collection is finalized, it is up to our merchandising and creative teams to figure out the most impactful way to tell the story of that trend. Behind the scenes, there is a flurry of activity. Flooring and wall colors or treatments are chosen, props are selected and what was once a pile of product comes together into a cohesive, meaningful story.

This summer, our focal trend was Black Sand, an elevated take on tropical. This story used botanical motifs in black and white with pops of green and gold. When planning our window display for Atlanta Market, we chose to use large paper cutout tropical leaves to cover the wall behind the product. In total, we hand cut around 250 leaves for the window and the showroom entrance. We received so many comments and compliments on the leaves, that we decided to share how you can recreate this look in your own store.

What you need:
• Vector leaf graphic template
• Printer for making paper template
• Large cutting board
• Pen knife (with lots of extra blades)
• Pen or pencil
• Large paper roll (we used Savage Widetone seamless background
paper from our photo studio)

Step One:
First decide what size you want your leaves and resize the vecor
graphic to match. Print leaves and cut them out as your tracing
template.

Note: Unless you have a large format printer, you will need to print
the leaves in sections and tape them together.

Step Two:
Roll out appropriate length of paper and tape it down over your cutting
surface. On the desk we used as a surface, we could trace around five
leaves on a sheet of paper.

Hint: We doubled our paper to cut two leaves at a time.

Cutting the Template Step Three:
Play Tetris with your paper templates and trace your leaves on.

Step Four:
Cut out leaves using pen knife.

Step Five:
Iron on low if needed to flatten the finished leaves.

Step Six: Hang leaves overlapping them to create dimension and texture.

IMAX to Open New Chicago Showroom – Merchandise Mart, 13-401

TULSA, OK – IMAX Worldwide Imports announced that its Chicago showroom is moving to a new storefront on a new floor, just in time for the upcoming market. The new showroom will be located at Merchandise Mart, 13-401, on the giftware floor.

The move is in conjunction with the company’s efforts to diversify their product line with giftable home décor.

“We are very excited about the showroom and the our new giftable line. Both are sure to be successful,” said Rex Yoakley, Vice President of Enterprise. “Each item was specially designed to be both unique and sellable, both of which our customers have come to expect from our merchandise.”
