Recently it was this collaborative approach which resulted in creation of the Vesparo Acrylic and Glass Dining Table,* for luxury lifestyle brand Nakasa.
With many years of combined experience in the home decor industry, senior buyer Kendra Wilkins and product designer Melissa Vasquez are more than familiar with a variety of production materials – of their attributes as well as their limitations. Acrylic for instance, has traditionally been utilized in designs with simple straight lines and hard edges due to its particular nature and its pre-production form. The fact that it’s transparent also presents special considerations in design and manufacturing. Simply stated, it’s not a top-of-mind, “go to” material for out-of-the-box product design.
Therefore, when Wilkins wanted to introduce a new dining table into the Nakasa luxury brand line, she and Vasquez went to work and soon agreed that acrylic was the only way to go. It was there, within the vast clarity and untapped potentiality of acrylic, they envisioned their “pièce de résistance.” They studied existing products and tested preliminary designs. They engaged in an open dialougue with the manufacturer, provided detailed illustrations to convey the vision and continued to push the boundaries of what was previously considered possible. As this was the first product of its kind to be produced by the factory, they were especially invested in the project.
Ultimately and to the satisfaction of all involved, these efforts resulted in a beautiful outcome. The Vesparo Dining Table is an innovation in product design, style, and craftsmanship. The stunning dining room diva measures 31”x 74”x 40” with tapered legs that attach to a 3” apron and is topped with a solid sheet of beveled tempered glass. It can be accessorized with a variety of chairs to complement any style.
The key feature that really sets this piece apart and breaks the norm in acrylic furniture design, however, lies just below the surface: A layer of acrylic in an ornately designed pattern of curvilinear shapes with beveled-edges spans the entire width and breath of the table. Appearing almost suspended in mid-air yet solidly constructed into the frame, this element adds dimension, depth and enhanced light reflection for a brilliant view unlike any other.
From concept to the customer, The Vesparo Dining Table delivers a unique and sophisticated statement, elevating the luxury-level of even the most discerning of dining rooms.
