We talk to hundreds of retailers, just like you, at each market. High Point was no exception. While everyone has a different take, we got a good feel for retailer’s overall impression of the market, which products were hot (and were not) and the state of the industry as a whole. We interviewed some members of our sales team, who were on the front lines, assisting you in the IMAX showroom.
Here’s what they took away from High Point market:
Rex Yoakley, IMAX Vice President of Enterprise Sales
“High Point was a great show for us. Retailers were upbeat and optimistic about a strong 2011. Customers are still cutting back on travel expenses so overall market traffic was slower than expected, but attendees were positive and writing orders. While still looking for value, customers were willing to buy at higher price points than a year ago, if the return on investment was there.
I think customer attitude at High Point is an indicator that the industry is on an up-swing. We are excited to see this trend continue in to winter market market season.”
Beth Duggan, IMAX National Account Executive
“The fall High Point show was very successful for me! I was thrilled that almost all of my appointments came by (AND placed nice orders) and many were first-time IMAX buyers. As usual, customers were very complimentary on how the showroom looked. Although overall market traffic seemed to be off this fall, our showroom was hopping most of the time, and a special thanks to our food and drink coordinators!
Our home accessories are always the most popular draw due to our competitive pricing and up-to-date trends. The Design Showcase program was also a big hit. Many of our furniture buyers are pleased to purchase our already designed accessory showcases which saves them time and guess work. Retailers, as a whole, seem to have a much more positive attitude about the economy and anticipate an uptick for fourth quarter.”
Tiffany Fulmer, IMAX National Account Executive
“I loved High Point market! Buyers and owners were more positive than ever about the economy and were ready to do business and stock up their stores for the fourth quarter. They are anticipating it to be very prosperous! Customers said IMAX had the “wow” showroom.
I believe the city of High Point has realized that they need to value the industry and appreciate the business it brings to their city and surrounding cities.
Overall, retailers were very positive, energized, happy. Their outlook on fourth quarter is good, even with the great unknown.”
Barbara Fitzgerald, IMAX National Account Executive
“High Point was a strong market! Customers were excited and looking for great product to fill their shelves in preparation for the holiday season. Buyers were enthusiastic and positive. Many said business has increased and they are projecting a strong fourth quarter. Customers were looking for anything IMAX, especially our trends. Retailers rely on IMAX in difficult times as we offer proven sellers and a wide range of product categories.”
